The Diocesan/ Religious Directors of Communications recently held their Second Plenary for the year 2018. The conference (which is usually hosted rotationally by the ecclesiastical provinces in the country) was hosted this time by the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara on behalf of Owerri Province. The leadership of the Association in agreement with the Social Communications Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria decided on the choice of Ahiara to give that local Church a sense of belonging after years of troubles connected with the choice of a bishop for the diocese.

In his homily during the opening Mass for the plenary, the Apostolic Administrator of the Ahiara and the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Most Rev Lucius Ugorji warmly welcomed the delegates from all the dioceses across the country. He thanked the Almighty God who has manifested his love profusely for the diocese after many years of impasse. "It is a thing of joy that this diocese is once more booming with pastoral and liturgical life after many years of spiritual dryness..." , the bishop said. He stated that God has demonstrated that he is still with his Church as promised.

While declaring with joy and excitement, that peace and impressive pastoral growth has once more returned to the diocese, he thanked the Holy Father Pope Francis, whom God has used as a veritable instrument to bring life back to the troubled diocese. He hoped and prayed that the good Lord that has started the good work might bring it to fulfilment.

In their welcome speeches at the occasion, the Director of Communications of the host Diocese, Rev. Fr. Innocent Uwah and the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the conference, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Walter Ihejirika stated respectively that their joy knew no bounds welcoming the delegates to their diocese. They paid tributes to the National Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Chris Anyanwu and the National President of the Association for the role they played in the choice of Ahiara as the host Diocese.

In his own speech during the opening ceremonies, the Episcopal Chairman of Communications and the Auxiliary Bishop of Onitsha, Most Rev Dennis Isizor urged the delegates to be good ambassadors of the gospel message and to be advocates of peace, justice and good governance as the 2019 general elections draw near.

Highlight of the occasion was the election of the new officers who would be serving the Association for the next four years.

At the end of the plenary, the Association presented their resolutions which was jointly signed by the National President, Rev. Fr. Anthony Ijasan and the National Secretary, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi respectively.
